Gabrielle Banks

Gabrielle Banks

Gabrielle Banks' (born 1997, Nassau, The Bahamas) paintings explore issues of race, gender, and sexuality and specifically reflects the experience of navigating the world as a woman of color.  She primarily does this through her portrayal of the nude figure and is interested in the ways in which color and the figure interact more so than the narrative significance of the work.

Banks' pieces have appeared in a collaborative show by School of Design which highlighted works from all black artists. Her solo show, "The Mark of a Woman, was curated at National Art Gallery of the Bahamas in 2017.

Banks is currently pursuing a BFA in Painting and a Minor in Art History at the Rhode Island School of Desighn. She lives in Providence, Rhode Island, and hopes to return to the Bahamas after her studies.
